At the BMW Group social responsibility is hugely important – and includes a commitment to diversity within our own ranks. That’s why the company is running a host of events for associates to join during Diversity Week, from 17-21 May.
At the BMW Group, we firmly believe that diversity makes us more competitive and more productive. Diverse teams are more innovative, and numerous studies prove it. That’s why we aim to achieve a working environment that is free from prejudice and values difference. We promote tolerance, inclusion and equal opportunities, and are acting on discrimination with targeted steps. To highlight our conviction, last year we added two new aspects to the existing dimensions of sex, cultural background, and age & experience, and our agenda now includes sexual orientation & identity, and disability as well.
Close collaboration between company and Works Council
The BMW Group and its Works Councils are working closely on the issue of diversity. For several years the Works Council has run a Diversity Committee, which liaises with specialist departments for diversity and discusses ideas and suggestions with them. Topic being advanced in this way include joint leadership.
Global in-house communication campaign
This year Diversity Week will also be supported by an international communication campaign called Driven by Diversity. This presents the five dimensions of diversity through associates telling their own stories.
