The BMW Group enters a new era in 2025 with the all-electric Neue Klasse models. The company is changing fundamentally for this. From design to development and production to distribution – almost everything will be new. The Neue Klasse is the result of the company's ongoing transformation with the aspiration to make individual mobility more human, intelligent and responsible.
Electromobility, digitalisation and circularity are at the heart of what is probably the biggest transformation in the long and distinguished history of the BMW Group. Transformation already permeates many areas of the BMW Group. Initial statements from the management and key milestones up to the premiere in 2025 underline the importance of the Neue Klasse for the BMW Group.
Transformation.
Neue Klasse: the future of BMW.
“BMW had already reinvented itself once at the beginning of the 1960s. The Neue Klasse reflected the zeitgeist of the time – young, dynamic, progressive. Today is just as much about a departure, albeit in different circumstances. The very fact that the BMW Group is once again calling an entire vehicle generation Neue Klasse is a conscious signal towards the future. For the decades to come.”
Oliver Zipse, Chair of the Board of Management of BMW AG
“One thing is certain for the BMW Group: high-performance, innovative and sustainably produced battery cells are the key success factor for individual electromobility of the future. From 2025, the BMW Group will be using newly developed, round battery cells for the first time with Neue Klasse models. These cells are perfectly matched to the new architecture. This sixth generation of lithium-ion cells represents an enormous technological leap.”
Frank Weber, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Development
“With the Neue Klasse, we are also starting a new chapter in the design of the BMW brand. For us, the major technological changes introduced in the Neue Klasse are an opportunity for new design solutions. Good design can be a catalyst for change. We will also make our products both smarter and simpler, as well as more modern yet typically BMW.”
Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design
“The Neue Klasse is more than a car, it is the start of a completely new generation of BMW models. Electric, digital and circular. The Neue Klasse is based on the NCAR, which is uncompromising designed for BEVs. Our highly communal, scalable New Cluster Architecture can cover all relevant segments from compact to luxury class. It is also the technical backbone for our technology clusters. The future of BMW depends on this high integration and networking of the most modern and innovative technologies: physical and digital, multifunctional, intelligent and adaptive, emotional and inspiring. This is how we take BMW typical driving pleasure into the next dimension."
Dr. Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse BMW

A Neue Klasse for a new age.
With the Neue Klasse, the BMW Group is developing a fundamentally new, fully-electric architecture for the model portfolio of the BMW brand. The Neue Klasse connects the successful history of the brand with a technological quantum leap into the future.
The Neue Klasse will start out in the high-volume core of the BMW brand with a sports activity vehicle and a saloon in today’s BMW 3 Series segment. In total, production of at least six Neue Klasse models will begin across the worldwide production network of the BMW Group in the first 24 months.
A new kind of interaction between human and automobile.
The vehicles of the Neue Klasse are characterised by a newly designed user experience: The vehicle becomes a digital experience space. This is facilitated by the new BMW iDrive, which enables intuitive interaction between the driver and the vehicle. At the heart of this concept is the BMW Panoramic Vision. It enables information to be displayed across the entire width of the windscreen. Complemented by the new BMW 3D Head-Up Display, information such as assisted driving or traffic guidance can be projected three-dimensionally into the driver's visual axis. In combination with the newly designed multifunction steering wheel and the Central Display as well as the tried-and-tested voice control with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, driving is more intuitive and at the same time more individual than ever before.
Neue Klasse milestones.
The BMW i Vision Circular, BMW i Vision Dee and BMW i Vision Neue Klasse vision vehicles offer the first glimpses of the innovations of the Neue Klasse.
BMW i Vision Circular.
BMW i Vision Circular.
With the BMW i Vision Circular, the BMW Group provides a preview of a BMW with a consistent focus on the circular economy and use of secondary materials. The vision vehicle shows that the circular economy mindset for future mobility is comprehensive and far-reaching in the BMW Group. The Neue Klasse embodies this future like no other current project. It fully embraces the BMW i Vision Circular mindset in its development and demonstrates the outstanding position the BMW Group holds in resource efficiency, extending throughout the entire life cycle, from raw material procurement to recycling.
BMW i Vision Dee.
BMW i Vision Dee.
The BMW Group is underlining how digitality and operation directly oriented to the requirements of passengers could feel in the future with the BMW i Vision Dee vision vehicle. The futuristic vision of a mid-size saloon points far into the future and underlines the paramount importance of digitalisation for coming product generations. “Dee” stands for Digital Emotional Experience – an even more intensive relationship between humans and automobiles in the future. The future digital functions extend far beyond the level of voice control and driver assistance systems known today, representing a fusion of virtual experience and genuine driving pleasure.

The transformation of the BMW Group envelopes all of the company’s brands. MINI is leading its iconic vehicles into a new era of urban mobility: the market launch of the “New MINI Family” increases the share of electrified models in the product range. The new model family has set a further milestone on the road to a fully electrified product range for the brand by the year 2030. The new vehicles from MINI also signal the start of a new digital era for the brand. In focus: the new MINI Interaction Unit, the round OLED display that is unique in the automotive industry. What’s more, the series awaits drivers with a highly advanced technology package, Operating System 9, and a fully fledged voice assistant. Nevertheless, a MINI always remains a MINI: the new design language, called “Charismatic Simplicity”, underlines the distinctive proportions of the vehicles. The pared-down approach connects the simplicity of functional elements with the emotionality that is typical of MINI.
