More comfort, entertainment, and driving pleasure. The eighth generation of the BMW 5 Series makes its market debut in October. More than almost any other car, it stands for the success of the brand.
The BMW 5 Series is firmly at the heart of the brand:: since the first generation was introduced in 1972, it has been produced over ten million times. Engineers, designers and a host of other experts at the BMW Group have refined every detail of the vehicle over the course of more than 50 years. The BMW 5 Series has become more intelligent, more striking and more economical. Customers all over the world have come to treasure it. It has been the global market leader in the premium Business Sedan segment for years.
From October 2023, something brand new will dominate the streetscape. This is when the eighth generation of the successful model will be launched. It will be tailored to every need. This range includes petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid variants in addition to the first fully electric BMW i5. All vehicles are based on the same platform.
Inside, the new i5 is as comfortable and luxurious as the BMW 5 Series. The main focus is on the best features that the BMW Group currently has to offer. The newly designed interior is shaped by the BMW Curved Display with the new BMW iDrive and QuickSelect together with the innovative BMW Interaction Bar. Entertainment is courtesy of video streaming and in-car gaming. For the first time, the BMW 5 Series also has an equipment option of a completely vegan interior: the upholstery and steering wheel are fitted with the high-quality Veganza leather alternative as standard.
The list of assistance systems reads like an encyclopaedia of what is possible today. The new Highway Assistant takes over many driving functions. This makes for relaxed travel on long journeys and even more safety. The assistance systems support the driver up to 130 km/h, maintaining the speed and the distance to the vehicle in front while, if desired, actively changing lane by eye activation. The Highway Assistant allows the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel and position them comfortably in the USA, Canada and Germany on roads with structurally separated directional lanes at speeds of up to 130 km/h, as long as they closely monitor the traffic situation. The system continuously monitors this with the help of an intelligent interior camera.
The BMW 5 Series also sets new standards in driving dynamics. The Adaptive Suspension Professional with electronically controlled shock absorbers is offered as an optional extra. By selecting My Modes, two clearly distinguishable settings can be activated that take into account longitudinal and lateral acceleration, road speed and steering angle, as well as body and wheel acceleration on the front axle.
The new BMW 5 Series not only conveys that feeling of driving pleasure. It’s also about the new pleasure of parking. Remote-controlled parking via the My BMW App also makes its debut in the BMW 5 series as an element of the optional Parking Assistant Professional. This function elevates driving safety to a new level and further relieves the burden on the person behind the wheel. For example, the system does not just take account of other vehicles when parking and backing out automatically, but also of marker lines and kerbs.
The world’s most successful Business Sedan not only stands for advanced, excellent technology in its new edition, it also presents itself in a new sporty, elegant design. The front view is shaped by the brand’s iconic profile, twin headlights and a modern, optionally illuminated kidney grille. The strikingly sporty character of the typical three-box sedan design is also expressed in the steeply raked A-pillar, the gently flowing roof line into the rear and the slightly sloping luggage compartment line.
Production of all model variants will start in July this year at a location steeped in tradition: the BMW 5 Series has been rolling off the production line at the BMW Group Dingolfing Plant for 50 years. The electrified top-of-the-range BMW i5 M60 xDrive model will also be produced there from summer onwards. The performance model from M GmbH underscores the brand's sporty image with an output of 442 kW/601 hp, acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h.
The BMW 5 Series range will be evenly balanced from the market launch in autumn. The all-electric BMW i5 will be available worldwide from the start, and as a Touring model from spring 2024. Highly efficient four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology in a market-specific selection are also a fixture in the planning. The expansion to plug-in hybrid models from spring 2024 completes the new BMW 5 Series model range.
The world’s most successful Business Sedan is rolling into the future with the BMW Group – dynamic, digital and, for the first time, fully electric.
